FASTING - Ash Wednesday & Good Friday are obligatory fast days for anyone from age 18-59. When fasting a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. The Church recommends a regular practice of fasting beyond these obligatory days.
ABSTINENCE FROM MEAT - All persons aged 14 and older are bound by the law of abstinence from meat on Fridays during Lent, for it was on Friday that Jesus sacrificed his flesh for us on the cross. This includes all meat, though fish is permitted.
ALMSGIVING - The Rice Bowl program directs your almsgiving to the poor on a global level through Catholic Relief Services. These are available in the plaza. You may also choose to give to our St. Vincent de Paul Society or another charity that helps the poor locally.
